Our Ingredient Philosophy

We believe skin recognizes what it’s fed.

That’s why our products are built around bio-compatible, nutrient-dense ingredients—materials the skin already knows how to use. When the ingredient does the work, there’s no need to dress it up.

Why Tallow (Suet Tallow to be exact)

We formulate with grass-fed, grass-finished suet tallow from regenerative Ohio farms.  These cows are raised without antibiotics, added hormones or grain diets. This is notable because animals store toxins in their fat and whatever we use on our skin can absorb into our bloodstream. Tallow in general is considered non-comedogenic (not prone to clogging pores for most), is naturally occlusive (without suffocating the skin), and is exceptionally aligned with barrier repair and hydration because it so closely resembles our skin’s own sebum.

Suet—the dense fat surrounding the kidneys—is the highest-grade fat available for tallow. It’s naturally cleaner, more stable, and more consistent than trim fat, producing a firmer, longer-lasting balm that closely mirrors the skin’s own lipid structure. Most tallow products on the market use general fat trimmings – which are much cheaper.

Why Grass-Fed & Finished Suet Matters

• More favorable saturated-to-unsaturated fat ratio (balanced Omega 3 fatty acids ideal for healthy skin regeneration)

• Higher levels of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid)

• Higher levels of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K)

• Greater oxidative stability

• Cleaner aroma and more predictable performance

We do not deodorize our tallow with water and salt, nor do we whip it for texture. Both processes introduce unnecessary heat, moisture, and oxygen—factors that can compromise stability and longevity. Instead, we rely on careful rendering, proper filtration, and fresh sourcing to preserve integrity from the start.

Tallow is also inherently sustainable—a low-waste byproduct of regenerative and traditional farming that honors the whole animal and requires minimal processing, not petrochemical refinement.

Lanolin: Quietly Brilliant

Lanolin is uniquely bio-compatible with human skin, able to bind and hold up to twice its weight in water while reinforcing the skin barrier—hydrating deeply without clogging pores or feeling heavy.

It’s also a naturally renewable, low-waste ingredient, gently collected during routine sheep shearing. Its use supports traditional farming practices, full-fiber utilization, and whole-animal stewardship.

Lanolin is well tolerated by most people, though a small percentage may be sensitive. We recommend patch testing any new skincare product before use.

Emu Oil, Intentionally Sourced

Emu oil is naturally rich in oleic acid, allowing it to absorb quickly and support the skin barrier without heaviness. When responsibly sourced, it utilizes the whole animal—making it a sustainability-aligned ingredient with exceptional skin affinity.

Slow Infusions & Time-Tested Minerals

Many of our oils begin as organic whole-herb infusions, not extracts or shortcuts.

We infuse dried organic botanicals into our oils for months allowing time—not heat or solvents—to gently draw out fat-soluble plant compounds. This slow process produces balanced, skin-compatible infusions that retain botanical integrity and perform without irritation.

When used, we also incorporate freshwater pearl powder that has been tested for purity and heavy metals. Long valued in traditional skin care for its mineral content and skin-refining properties, pearl is included thoughtfully, sourced responsibly, and used only where it truly belongs.

Waterless by Design (When Possible)

Many of our balms, oils, and treatments are intentionally water-free.

Why? Because water dilutes potency and often requires aggressive preservation.

By formulating without unnecessary water:

• Products are more concentrated

• Skin receives nourishment, not filler

• Shelf life improves naturally

• A little truly goes a long way

When water is used, it’s purposeful—often in the form of authentic hydrosols or botanical distillates that bring their own benefits to the skin.

Preservation, the Honest Way

We believe in safety and integrity.

Where preservation is required, we use naturally derived systems that support stability without disrupting the skin’s microbiome. Many oil-based products require no preservative at all.

We’ll never market a product as “clean” if it isn’t responsibly made.

Skin Sensitivity & Patch Testing

We recommend performing a patch test before introducing any new skincare product, especially if you have sensitive, reactive, or allergy-prone skin. Natural ingredients, essential oils, bee-derived ingredients, and botanical extracts can cause sensitivity in some individuals.

Apply a small amount to the inner arm and wait 24 hours before full use. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
